Efficient implementation of advanced Richardson Extrapolation in an atmospheric chemical scheme

Abstract The numerical treatment of an atmospheric chemical scheme, which contains 56 species, is discussed in this paper. This scheme often used studies air pollution levels different domains, as, for example, Europe, by large-scale environmental models containing additionally two other important physical processes—transport pollutants the atmosphere (advection) and diffusion phenomena. We shall concentrate our attention on efficient using Implicit Runge–Kutta Methods combined with accurate advanced versions Richardson Extrapolation. A Variable Stepsize Formula Method developed order to achieve high accuracy calculated results within a reasonable computational time. Reliable estimations errors when proposed methods are will be demonstrated presenting from several representative runs comparing these “exact” concentrations obtained applying very small stepsize during computations. Results related diurnal variations some species also presented. approach paper does not depend particular can easily applied schemes selected.
